Koh Lanta is home to an underwater world that is truly magical and rare to find in Thai waters. Here, you have the chance to witness a dazzling array of colorful soft corals, sea fans, and gorgonians, in every color imaginable. Normally, sea fans can only be seen at deeper depths, but at the Sea Fan Garden on Koh Lanta, they thrive in abundance at a depth of just 1-4 meters. This makes this spot perfect for snorkelers to experience the beauty of the underwater world without having to go too deep.

In addition to the vibrant sea fans, the Sea Fan Garden boasts an incredible diversity of marine life. You can expect to see a kaleidoscope of colorful sea slugs, a variety of fish species, hard and soft corals, sea whips, coral crabs, lionfish, pufferfish, and even rare creatures like the seahorse.

Here are some reasons why you should visit the Sea Fan Garden on Koh Lanta:

  1. Witness a rare underwater spectacle: The Sea Fan Garden is home to a stunning array of colorful soft corals, sea fans, and gorgonians, in every color imaginable. This is a truly unique sight that is not easily found elsewhere in Thailand.
  2. Accessible snorkeling: The Sea Fan Garden is located at a shallow depth of just 1-4 meters, making it perfect for snorkelers of all experience levels. No need for scuba diving gear to experience the beauty of this underwater world.
  3. Abundant marine life: The Sea Fan Garden is teeming with a variety of marine life, including colorful sea slugs, fish, corals, sea whips, crabs, lionfish, pufferfish, and even rare creatures like the seahorse. This is a great place to learn about the diversity of the underwater ecosystem.
  4. Support local tourism: By visiting the Sea Fan Garden, you are supporting the local community on Koh Lanta. This helps to ensure that the island’s natural resources are protected and that the local people can continue to benefit from tourism.

If you are a lover of the sea and are looking for a truly unforgettable experience, then the Sea Fan Garden on Koh Lanta is a must-visit destination.

For this underwater exploration program, we will take you to visit three key underwater spots:

1. Sea Fan Garden: A Colorful Coral Wonderland

Sea Fan Garden is a vibrant underwater location filled with colorful corals known as sea fans. These sea fans display a spectrum of colors, including red, pink, yellow, orange, white, blue, brown, black, and purple, densely populating the area. The depth of Sea Fan Garden starts at just 1 meter, making it easily visible even for those outside the diving community. Apart from the diverse coral formations, the area is rich in sea anemones, providing a home for countless clownfish and sea whips that resemble blooming flowers.

2. Pink Rock: The Gentle Beauty of Soft Corals

Pink Rock is a unique spot where you can encounter delicate pink soft corals, specifically Carnation Corals. These soft corals create a stunning pink carpet across the seabed. The depth of the pink coral formations here is only 3-4 meters, making it an accessible and flourishing area for soft corals. Pink Rock offers a mesmerizing underwater garden reminiscent of a lavender field, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty beneath the waves.

3. Nemo House: A Village of Clownfish

Nemo House is where you’ll find an abundance of clownfish, those small captivating fish that become lively even at the sight of two fins. This area hosts a diverse community of clownfish, showcasing two main species. The houses of these clownfish are nestled in an array of sturdy coral formations, providing an excellent opportunity to observe their natural behavior. Besides the charming clownfish village, Nemo House also features a variety of hard coral formations, making it a must-visit for those who adore clownfish and appreciate the intricacies of coral reefs.

Recommended Time for Sea Fan Exploration

Due to the continuous water flow at the Sea Fan Garden and Pink Rock dive site, visiting these spots is subject to certain limitations related to water conditions. The ideal time to explore these areas is during slack tide, a period when water movement is minimal. This occurs during the low tide phase, providing clearer visibility and enhancing the overall underwater experience.

  • Yellow Marked Days:
Suitable for exploration with good water conditions.
  • Blue Marked Days:
Best time for still water conditions during this season.

Please note that the marked days are subject to tidal variations, and it is recommended to plan your visit accordingly for a safe and visually stunning underwater journey. Contact us to align your travel plans with the highlighted calendar for an optimal experience.

Traditional Longtail Boat of the Urak Lawoi Community

The longtail boat used for the entire trip is a popular vessel in the Andaman Sea region on the southern coast. Originally designed for traditional village fishing, it represents the local wisdom of the Krabi province. The distinctive feature of the longtail boat is its extended prow, reaching out into the sea and rising high to withstand the strong winds and waves of the Andaman Sea coastline. This unique design gives the boat its name, referencing its ability to “head into the wind.” Additionally, the boat’s prow serves as a navigational needle and a barrier to prevent seawater from entering.

On the longtail boat used for this tour, you will find snorkeling equipment, dive masks, snorkels, and life jackets available for your convenience.
