One of the cultural eco-tourism activities combines the art of free diving with local sea foraging. This activity will take you on a long-tail boat to the fishing grounds of the local islanders, approximately 1 hour away from Koh Lanta.
The adventure begins with a free dive, exploring the beauty of the underwater world and foraging for seafood such as clams and fish. The seafood collected during the activity will be used to prepare lunch for the participants, including special seafood dishes. The activity area ranges from 3 to 20 meters deep, featuring vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life.
The focus of the activity is sustainable traditional fishing, using hands and basic fishing equipment. Participants who are skilled in free diving will have the opportunity to join the locals in searching for sea snails and enjoy a sashimi-style seafood feast on the boat.
This culturally immersive eco-tourism activity is priced at 8,000 Baht per day and can accommodate a maximum of 4 participants per trip.
“Seafood can be enjoyed at various seafood restaurants on the island, but there’s a unique experience in hunting and gathering your own seafood. Knowing where these clams and fish come from, understanding how they are caught, and experiencing the challenges of the process provide a different perspective. This experience is guided by local fishermen, who are the true experts in living off the sea.
We visit the fishing grounds with local fishermen, areas designated for traditional village fishing. It’s a place where fishing is allowed, and the catch, including fish and clams, can be freely gathered and used for personal consumption. The aim is not just to have a good time but to learn and understand the way of life of the local fishermen. It’s an opportunity to appreciate the daily challenges they face in their livelihoods.
This trip is not just a leisure activity; it’s an educational journey into the lifestyle of the local fishing community. It provides a chance to increase opportunities, create jobs, and support sustainable economic growth in the community. By diversifying income sources through activities like this, we contribute to the development of the local economy.
Today’s consumers value the origin of their food more than ever. Many are eager to support local communities and participate in activities that promote sustainable practices. This activity is not just about going on a tour; it’s about learning and understanding the local fishing culture while enjoying a hands-on experience.
In the current era, where consumers increasingly emphasize the importance of knowing where their food comes from, this activity allows participants to actively engage with local fishermen, supporting the community and fostering sustainable tourism. It’s an opportunity for travelers to have a direct impact on local economies and contribute to the well-being of fishing communities.
The activity not only encourages tourism but also promotes responsible and sustainable travel. By joining this tour, participants can experience the traditional way of life of the local fishing community, gaining insight into their practices and contributing to the local economy.

Join us on this journey to experience the true essence of sustainable and community-based tourism in Koh Lanta.
Traditional Longtail Boat of the Urak Lawoi Community
The longtail boat used for the entire trip is a popular vessel in the Andaman Sea region on the southern coast. Originally designed for traditional village fishing, it represents the local wisdom of the Krabi province. The distinctive feature of the longtail boat is its extended prow, reaching out into the sea and rising high to withstand the strong winds and waves of the Andaman Sea coastline. This unique design gives the boat its name, referencing its ability to “head into the wind.” Additionally, the boat’s prow serves as a navigational needle and a barrier to prevent seawater from entering.
On the longtail boat used for this tour, you will find snorkeling equipment, dive masks, snorkels, and life jackets available for your convenience.
